LinkedIn Headline Worksheet

LinkedIn Headline Worksheet

Your headline is a billboard, not a job title. It follows you everywhere on LinkedIn, even into comments, where only the first 50 characters show. Front-load the good stuff.

The formula has three parts:

[Title] | [Who you help and how] | [One human icebreaker]

See it in action. Before: "Seeking new opportunities | Open to work." After: "Customer Success Manager | I help SaaS teams cut churn | Hot sauce obsessive." Same person. One sounds like a form, the other sounds like someone you would call.

The worksheet walks you through each part:

  1. Your title. The role you want to be known for. Use the words employers actually put in job postings.
  2. Who you help and how. Ask yourself what your favorite client would say you do for them. Name the value in plain language.
  3. Your icebreaker. The thing people always remember about you. Hot sauce, barbecue, marathon running, whatever is true. The icebreaker is the point: it gives strangers a reason to start a conversation.

Then put it together, read it out loud, and run the final checks: the first 50 characters carry the value, the wording mirrors real postings for your target role, and your About section stays in first person while the headline does the billboard work.
