AI Helped Me Lose 50 Pounds. Here's How.

For the first time in 8 years, I'm under 300 pounds (down from 350).

That's a huge milestone for me, and while a lot of factors contributed to getting here (nutrition, training, mindset), there's one thing in particular that has been an unexpected game changer.

ChatGPT.

I've been using it to help me stay consistent with my strength training. Not just for motivation or tips. Real, practical support: tracking my lifts, calculating progressive overload, and reminding me of how much weight I lifted last week so I can push just a little more.

Every week, I ask ChatGPT to show me last week's weight totals and adjust so that I'm at a specific percentage increase or decrease based on what our coaches recommend. It breaks down exactly which plates I need to load on each side of the bar.

Could I figure that out in my head? Sure. Could I use a spreadsheet? Definitely. But both of those methods have more friction, and friction leads to skipped steps.

When I'm done with a workout, I just pop the amounts in and ChatGPT logs it for me (exports a CSV too, if I want one).

And at the end of each cycle, I can pull a full progress chart summarizing everything.

I log it all using voice-to-text between sets. The data is always there when I need it. No forgetting, no second-guessing, no wasted time.

This process is just easier.

When things are easier, I'm more likely to stay consistent. That's the whole game.

Beyond lifting, AI has helped me understand nutrition, how the body actually works (I was never a big biology guy), and how to approach fat loss sustainably.

It's been like having a coach, a teacher, and a data analyst all in one.

I realize how it might sound to say "AI helped me lose weight." But I'll be honest: for years, I could have been Googling this stuff. I didn't. Not because I didn't care, but because I didn't know where to start, the process felt overwhelming, and I was scared to change (I love beer and pizza).

ChatGPT removed that barrier. It's fast, conversational, and makes storing and recalling information simple. That simplicity has been a major unlock.

I still have to put in the actual work. Going to the gym. Eating right. Showing up. But tracking in ChatGPT makes it almost fun because I know I'm going to see progress over time. It keeps me focused on the long game, cementing the right habits and consistency.

This version of me went from not being able to walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded, to carrying both my kids (combined 100+ lbs) on my shoulders up those same stairs without breathing heavy.

If you've been curious about how to incorporate AI into your daily life, this is your sign. Whether it's health, work, or something else entirely, there's probably a place where it can remove just enough friction to make the thing you've been avoiding actually stick.
